University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMTC)

Postdoctoral Associates in Virology & Vaccine development

University of Minnesota

Minneapolis, MN, United States

Several postdoctoral associate and a lab coordinator/administrator positions are available at the University of Minnesota to support a newly funded a multi-group project aims to apply new strategies for the development of an HIV-1 vaccine.

Herschhorn group

Two postdoctoral associate positions are available in the Herschhorn laboratory at the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine, Department of Medicine. We are a new and energetic research group that works on exciting directions to understand and target virus-host interactions at the molecular and cellular levels. We use interdisciplinary approaches at the interface of synthetic and molecular virology, immunology, cell biology and bioinformatics to gain new insights into complex biological processes, with the aim of translating these insights into novel therapies and vaccines to treat and prevent viral infections. Specific research directions include the study of HIV-1 evolution and adaptation, biology of HIV-1 entry, HIV-1 interactions with neutralizing antibodies, design of novel immunogens, and vaccine development (Herschhorn et al. Nat. Commun. 8, 1049 (2017); Herschhorn et al. Nat. Chem. Biol. 10, 845-852 (2014)).

An additional position is available to candidates at any educational level and focused on coordinating the scientific work of 7 research groups, lab management, and scientific writing and editing, including grant and manuscript preparation. The positions are available immediately for highly motivated candidates. Interested candidates should email a cover letter and curriculum vitae including a list of publications as a single PDF file to Alon Herschhorn, Ph.D. at

Liang/Ly group

An additional postdoctoral position is available in the Liang/Ly laboratory. The lab at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities is looking for an entry-level PhD-trained scientist with passion and demonstrated experience in molecular biology, immunology, virus and cell culturing techniques, as well as small animal modeling to develop viral vector-based vaccines for humans and livestock.  Candidates should send CV and name of 3 references to Dr. Yuying Liang at and/or Dr. Hinh Ly at

Aldrich group

Several postdoctoral positions are immediately available at the University of Minnesota, Department of Medicinal Chemistry for synthetic organic chemists. All applicants must have a Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry. Extensive experience in organic synthesis including outstanding problem-solving abilities, mastery of organic chemistry and mechanism, superior knowledge of analytical methods including NMR, HPLC and LC-MS is required. Interested candidates should e-mail a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief research summary, and contact information for three references in PDF format to Dr. Courtney Aldrich at with “postdoctoral position” in the subject line.

Review of all applications will start immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
