Description: POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available at an NIH-funded lab to study the role of inflammasome signaling in neutrophils and platelets, and how platelet-derived extracellular vesicles contribute to pathophysiology of vaso-occlusion, lung injury and sterile inflammation in Sickle Cell Disease. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art techniques such as Multi-Photon-Excitation intravital microscopy of the lung and other organs in mice, microfluidic platform studies with human blood, and other molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. Previous experience in mice surgery or intravital microscopy, and strong background in neutrophil and platelet adhesion biology, innate immunity or extracellular vesicle/exosome signaling is highly preferred. Our lab is located in Vascular Medicine Institute (VMI) of the University of Pittsburgh-School of Medicine. VMI has strong commitment towards career development of young investigators in the field of vascular inflammation. Postdoc candidates will also have the opportunity to learn basic and clinical hematology by participating in NIH funded Pittsburgh Intensive Training in Hematology Program (http://vmi.pitt.edu/CTIH/PITHR/index.html).
