Tohru Fukai and Masuko Ushio-Fukai Lab at Vascular Biology Center (VBC), Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows who is interested in studying the Redox (ROS) Signaling (Nox, SOD3, etc) and Metal biology (e.g. Copper transporters) in vascular metabolic disease, vascular aging and angiogenesis in the field of vascular and endothelial cell, myeloid cell, and cancer biology. The position is immediately available.


Qualified applicants will be involved in the following major areas of research in the laboratory:


1. Role of Redox Signaling (Nox, SOD3, etc) and its regulators (Copper transporters) in vascular metabolic and inflammatory diseases (atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes/obesity, vascular aging) and angiogenesis/lymphangiogenesis


2. Role of Mitochondria Dynamics and Metabolism involved in vascular metabolic and inflammatory diseases as well as angiogenesis/lymphangiogenesis (ref Kim YM et al. Fukai T, and Ushio-Fukai M. Redox Regulation of Mitochondria Fission Protein Drp1 by Protein Disulfide Isomerase Limits Endothelial Senescence. Cell Reports 2018)


Salary Negotiable, depending on experience


Requirements


We will consider qualified candidates with PhD or MD/PhD degrees and a background in any of the following areas:




  • Cell Signaling, Molecular Biology, Protein-Protein Interaction Analysis, Mitochondria Dynamics/Metabolism, Fluorescence Imaging. For technique, retina angiogenesis, skeletal muscle regeneration, confocal microscopy, FACS sorting, etc.


Research Environment

The laboratory is supported by several grants from NIH and American Heart Association.  Candidates will benefit from a terrific, collaborative scientific environment and outstanding core facilities at VBC and state-of-the-art facilities/equipment (Cell Imaging and Histology/Electron microscopy cores, Flow Cytometry core, Genomics and Proteomics core, Small Animal Behavior and Imaging (SPECT, CT, MRI, Bioluminescence/Florescence imaging) core, Metabolic monitoring, etc).  Augusta is a beautiful city located on Savannah river (https://www.visitaugusta.com/things-to-do/attractions/savannah-river/) with driving access to East Coast Beaches and North Carolina mountains to enjoy weekend and vacations.
