Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO)

Postdocs in Discovery Screening and Functional Genomics

Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO)

Oxford, United Kingdom

Join Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO) as our new Postdoc in Discovery Technologies and Genomics. We are looking to hire several Postdocs for various projects with the aim of establishing phenotypic and discovery screens using advanced technologies and human-centric cellular models to uncover novel biology relevant to type 2 diabetes and cardiometabolic disease.

About Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO)
NNRCO is Novo Nordisk’s new Translational Research Unit (TRU) focused on biology and target discovery across the broad spectrum of cardiometabolic disease. We aim to combine the very best of academia, biotech and big pharma, fusing deep understanding of disease biology, an agile creative culture and drug development. NNRCO will be a world-leading research site focused on asking the big and difficult questions and delivering high impact science. We will use genetics, functional genomics, human-centric disease models and computational biology to develop an unparalleled understanding of cardiometabolic disease and deliver therapies that transform the lives of patients.

Our location in the heart of the University of Oxford medical campus enables two-way collaborations with some of the best medical scientists in the world. These collaborations will include strategic investments in areas of mutual interest as well as jointly supervised PhD students and postdocs.

Our agile creative culture allows our scientists a high degree of individual autonomy to drive their own projects building on deep internal and external collaborations. Furthermore, cross-country collaborations within the organisation are part of our normal working environment and NNRCO scientists are an integral part of the Novo Nordisk Global Drug Discovery unit, which specialises in discovery and development of biological medicines for the treatment of Diabetes, Obesity, Cardiovascular and Liver diseases and Haemophilia.

The Department of Discovery Technologies and Genomics is led by Senior Director of Department, Fang Zhang PhD, and consists of Specialists, Staff Scientists, and Post-Doctoral Scientists. The focus of this Department is to establish and apply advanced technologies (genomics, single cell sequencing, proteomics, screening and imaging, modeling, etc.) to human-centric cellular models (including primary cells and stem cells) to enable phenotypic and discovery screens and discover novel biology relevant to type 2 diabetes and cardiometabolic disease. The Department collaborates with academic researchers and biotech companies with discovery biology and technology projects.

The Position
We are looking for two Postdocs to drive CRISPR-screening and functional validation of targets with novel modes of action, as identified by human genetic and genomic data and in silico analysis. You will use a combination of genome engineering/editing and human centric cell models to enable the screening. You will set up disease-relevant cellular phenotyping assays to test hypotheses and uncover causal mechanisms. You are expected to drive novel science discovery and publish in high ranking international journals. You will also have opportunity to collaborate internal and externally across multiple groups. Detailed project plans will be discussed with the selected candidates.

The Postdoc positions are full-time for a 36-month period.

The Postdoc positions require a PhD in a relevant scientific field and experience in a relevant laboratory setting. You have previous experience in genome engineering and/or editing, CRISPR, functional genomics, and metabolic disease biology.

Successful candidates will hold strong enthusiasm in novel science discovery, enjoy cross-team collaboration, have a positive “can-do” attitude, and thrive in a dynamic environment.

Strong communication and English skills are required.

Applicants are asked to clearly indicate, in a cover letter, their motivation to work with discovery screening and functional genomics using human cells to uncover novel biology for therapeutic discovery.
