Postdoc - Setup and Operation of a Measurement Network for Air Pollutants with Low-Cost Sensors

Jülich Research Centre (FZJ)

Jülich, Germany

Work group:

IEK-8 – Troposphäre

Area of research:

Scientific / postdoctoral posts

Job description:

The Institute of Energy and Climate Research, Troposphere (IEK-8) is one of the leading institutions investigating the chemical and physical processes in the troposphere that impact the chemical composition of the atmosphere ( www.fz-juelich.de/iek/iek-8/EN/Home/home_node.html ). Within the working group ‘Anthropogenic related Emissions’ we investigate factors determining the air quality in inner cities. However, the pollutant load can vary significantly from street to street. The lack of high-resolution data complicates the interpretation of epidemiological studies on the health effects of pollutants. The Helmholtz Pilot-Project ‘SMARAGD’ aims to combine individual health data with data from low-cost sensors.

Your Job:

In a collaborative project of the Helmholtz Association related to air quality in cities, you will setup and operate autonomous air quality sensors and safeguard their data quality at the World Calibration Center for Nitrogen Oxides in JülichYour tasks in detail

  • You will determine local air quality and its impacts on health. Data from the sensor network will be linked to health related data collected from our project partner

  • You will present the results within to the Citizen Science project ‘SMARAGD’ and publish the results
