Institute of Epidemiology
Area of research:
Scientific / postdoctoral posts
Contract time limit:
As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.
The Institute of Epidemiology (EPI) assesses genetic, environmental and lifestyle risk factors which jointly determine the occurrence of major chronic diseases. We focus on the development and progression of metabolic, respiratory and allergic diseases, as well as heart diseases and mental health. Our goal is to better understand the molecular underpinning of disease and to translate this knowledge into personalized approaches of prevention as well as policies to improve health. Our research builds on the unique resources of the KORA cohort and the birth cohorts GINI and LISA. We also play a central role in planning and setting up of the German National Cohort (GNC) and build the GNC biorepository.
At the next possible time, in the scope of the EU-project EXPANSE, the EPI is looking for a
Postdoc / Scientist in Epidemiology (f/m/d)
You will conduct research assessing the link between environmental exposures and molecular phenotypes using OMICs techniques such as genome-wide methylation and metabolomics using an exposome approach. You will design the integration of OMICs data from various studies and interact with cutting-edge laboratories providing novel measurements in biosamples of the EXPANSE cohort studies. You will shape the analyses and interact closely with bioinformaticians developing novel analyses procedures.
You are eager to join the European EXPANSE consortium and interact with junior and senior scientists with interdisciplinary backgrounds. In addition, you bring skills relevant to the role, such as:
Excellent PhD in Epidemiology or related subjectExcellent track record in epidemiologic research ideally using complex environmental data and / or OMICs dataProfound statistical expertise and a keen interest in applying innovative methods (such as causal inference or machine learning, or others)Experience with large complex data-sets Passion for epidemiological research in multidisciplinary teams
