West Virginia University (WVU)

Morgantown, United States

Two Post-Doc positions are currently available in Dr. Hu’s lab at the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cell Biology, West Virginia University (WVU). The lab focuses on mechanisms of epigenetic regulation of immune cells and cancer cells through integrative analysis of NGS multi-omics data (see Biomaterials 2020, PMID32987274; Front Immunology 2019, PMID31849962; Immunity 2018, PMID29466755; Nat Methods 2018, PMID30150754; Nat Immunology 2017, PMID28759003; Nat Immunology 2013, PMID 24056746; Cell Stem Cell 2013, PMID23260488; Cell 2012, PMID23021216). Our research study epigenetic mechanisms of drug resistance of hematological cancers such as multiple myeloma with a focus on epigenetic regulation by chromatin regulators and transcription factors.

Experimental Biology Position: Strong candidates must have a PhD in the area of molecular and cell biology, cancer biology, or other related backgrounds. The qualified candidate should have strong communication skills, be self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to work in a collaborative setting. He/she should be proficient in performing cell line culture, cell purification (magnetic beads- or FACS-based), RT-qPCR, ChIP-qPCR, western blot, apoptosis assays, proliferation assays, shRNA knockdown (stable and inducible), and other essential experimental skills. The position expects experience on building NGS libraries such as RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq. Having first-author paper(s) in the field of chromatin biology based on NGS is a strong plus.

Computational Biology Position: Strong candidates must have a PhD in the area of applied mathematics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or other related backgrounds. The candidate should have demonstrated strong programming skills on sequence analysis and machine learning. The lab will offer ample opportunities to analyze various next-generation sequencing data, including but not limited to RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, Hi-C, 16S rna-seq, microRNA, exome-seq and whole genome sequencing (WGS). The position also expects the candidate devote 50% of time to promote team science across the university through collaborative research. Having first-author paper(s) in the field of sequence analysis is a strong plus.

Competitive salary and benefits package offered. Qualified applicants may submit inquiry with a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information of three referees to Dr Gangqing Hu (

Founded in 1867, WVU is one of the only 11 research intensive land-grant institutions offering a single health sciences campus with accredited Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy and a formative School of Public Health. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies WVU as a comprehensive doctoral institution with medical programs. Morgantown and its vicinity are ranked among the most livable small cities in the country. The city is located within reasonable driving distances from Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC.
