The position requires chemical engineering, agriculture engineering or bioengineering background. The postdoc will lead the effort to design sustainable and economic bioprocess for multiple bioproducts from lignin and biorefinery waste. He will work closely with researchers in renewable materials, synthetic and systems biology to deliver new platforms for next generation biorefinery. Another postdoc position will focus on developing renewable carbon materials, in particular, carbon fiber from lignin. He or she will also work on developing lignin-based pavement materials like asphalt binder modifier and lignin-based polymer materials like recyclable plastics. The postdoc needs to have experience with material design and could participate in a broad range of projects including renewable carbon fiber, recyclable plastics, and nanoparticle for drug delivery. Another postdoc position might be available in the synthetic and systems biology, if a qualified candidate is available. The postdoc will be leading the efforts of engineering photosynthetic terpene production in plants or redesigning plant cell wall for functional materials. In addition, a postdoc or bioinformatician position at PhD or Masters Levels will be available. The bioinformatician position is available for the Synthetic and Systems Biology Innovation Hub, a university funded facility and intellectual core for synthetic biology and is expected to have experience with modeling of biological system and omics data processing. Background with mathematical biology, computational modeling and/or bioinformatics are needed. Experience about big data and machine learning will be a plus. The lab is integrated with Synthetic and Systems Biology innovation Hub, where latest proteomics, mass spectrometry, and high throughput screening platforms are available. In addition, biomaterial facility with spinning set-up, carbonization furnace, and mechanical testing instruments are also available. The lab is located in a brand-new state-of-the-art facility. The general lab environment is collaborative, friendly, and constructive. We are seeking highly motivated and productive scientists with suitable background as aforementioned.
