Scientific / postdoctoral posts
As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.
Diabetes and Obesity affect almost 400 million people worldwide and forecasts anticipate an increase of at least 20% by 2030.
Epidemiological studies have shown a high degree of genetic predisposition and familial aggregation in both diabetes and obesity. Nevertheless, lifestyle interventions have proven valuable in disease prevention and management.
The group of Environmental Epigenetics at the Institute of Experimental Genetics of the Helmholtz Zentrum München is looking for a Postdoc in Experimental Single-Cell biology for an initial period of two years. We are studying mechanisms of parental control of offspring development and health including epigenetic inheritance.
Aim of this project is to use single-cell biology to track germ-cells and maternal tract (uterus, placenta) epigenome reprogramming induced by environmental challenges and parental genetics.
PostDoc Position – Experimental Single-Cell Biology – Environmental Epigenetics Group (m/f/d)
You will use the mouse as a model system and perform droplet-based single-cell RNA and ATAC-Sequencing using the technology established by 10XGenomics and have the possibility to introduce and develop spatial transcriptomics and epigenomics as well. You will be expected to perform computational analysis of the data with available methods.
The ideal candidate brings
PhD in Life Science, Natural Science, or comparableStrong background in basic Molecular Biology techniquesBackground in (single-cell) omicsSpecific knowledge of gametogenesis and metabolic physiologyProfound interest in epigenetics and metabolismAt least one first author paper in an international peer-reviewed journalfluency in English
We are looking for a motivated team player with strong communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic environment. Your desire to understand biological problems is a must and prior experience in the field of epigenetics and/or metabolism is a strong plus.
