Postdoc (f/m/d) in preclinical PET imaging

A member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,200 people. The Center’s focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research is engaged in Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research. Chemical, biological and physical working groups work together to increase the knowledge in the scopes of Molecular Imaging and Tumor Therapy.

As part of the Institute, the Department of Translationale TME-Liganden, invites applications as Postdoc (f/m/d) in preclinical PET imaging. The position will be available as soon as possible. The employment contract is limited to 15.11.2021.


# The candidate is expected to contribute to the discovery, characterization and validation of new multimodal Positron Emission Tomography (PET) radiotracers for cancer imaging, using established and novel methodologies.
# Independent design and performance of high quality binding experiments with multi modal (e.g. PET/Optical imaging) radioligands on cell membranes, post-mortem tissue preparations and in small animals.
# Independently conceive and implement new technological approaches to ask specific scientific questions (e. g. immunohistochemistry, confocal or STED microscopy, autoradiography to demonstrate target engagement).
# Coordination, implementation, data analysis and reporting of the experiments, including presentations. Publication of the results in peer-reviewed journals.


# Ph.D. in biology/chemistry/medicine/pharmacy from a reputable institution with experience in small animal PET imaging (must), optical imaging (beneficial), radiotracer binding assays, ideally applied in the context of cancer imaging.
# Showing a strong publication record in PET ligand development in small animals.
# Competence to analyze of in vivo and in vitro datasets including knowledge in mice anatomy in CT or MRI scans.
# Experience in animal handling and immunohistochemistry (IHC) or biochemistry.
# Experience in the work with mouse xenograft models is beneficial.
# Ability to work independently and demonstration of experience in the design of experiments and project approaches as well as result interpretation and presentation.
# Passion for solving technical problems and applying new technologies to further scientific goals.
# Fluency in English, willing to learn German is beneficial.
