Postdoc in quantum condensed matter theory

Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

Trondheim, Norway

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate with expertise in theoretical quantum condensed matter to work on challenges related to superconducting quantum spintronics. The position will start late 2020/early 2021, with some flexibility for negotiation with the candidate.

A position is available as postdoctoral researcher at the QuSpin Center for Quantum Spintronics, which is part of the Department of Physics, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway.

The candidate will join and become part of an internationally leading research environment in quantum condensed matter theory and experiments.

The position has a duration of two years with the possibility of extension in return for teaching duties in agreement with the department.

About QuSpin

QuSpin carries out research in theoretical as well as experimental fields. QuSpin`s principal goal is to describe, characterize, and develop recently identified quantum approaches to control electric signals, conceptually different from those existing today.

QuSpin, a Center of Excellence, is funded by the Research Council of Norway. QuSpin is managed by a Center Director, a center coordinator and has four principal investigators. See http://www.ntnu.edu/quspin.

QuSpin currently has 8 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 permanent researchers, 26 PhD students and 7 postdoctoral researchers from 12 different nations working on various aspects of low dissipation spintronics.

The project leader will be Dr. Sol H. Jacobsen, and the position reports to the head of the Department of Physics, Prof. Erik Wahlström.

Questions about the position can be directed to Dr. Sol H. Jacobsen, phone number: +47 73413127, e-mail: sol.jacobsen@ntnu.no

Duties of the position

  • At QuSpin, our theory activity focuses on developing models for the utilization of spins and other quantum degrees of freedom in magnetic insulators, topological insulators, and superconductors. The candidate will contribute to these developments, with a particular focus on the theory of superconducting and magnetic materials.
  • The aim is to harness the coherent spin information of superconductivity in novel systems for information transfer in spintronics.
