The team of Medicinal Chemistry (CMFA) of the Louvain Drug Research Institute (LDRI) at UCLouvain, Brussels, Belgium, is looking for a chemical biologist/medicinal chemist to develop chemical biology tools to probe protein self-association for drug design applications. He.she will be involved in hot-spot analysis through the development of NMR and microscale thermophoresis (MST) experiments. He.she will also start developing peptide or non-peptide-based homo-oligomer disrupters.
The last decade has seen the targeting of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) emerging as a new strategy of drug design. The originality of the present project is to extend the methodology of PPI targeting to homomeric interfaces, i.e. targeting PPIs between monomers of the same drug target in order to disrupt its quaternary structure. These numerous PPIs constitute an underexplored pool of potential targets for therapeutic interventions. The working hypothesis of our new consortium composed of four teams (Raphaël Frédérick (UCLouvain), Johan Wouters (UNamur), Lionel Pochet (UNamur), Marianne Fillet (ULiège)) is that targeting the self-assembly of homomeric enzymes should provide a novel drug design approach. Our main goals are to develop a robust analytical/biophysical platform to characterize and assess homomeric protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and to identify new hit compounds able to target these PPIs.
The Post-doctoral researcher will be enrolled by the Louvain University (https://uclouvain.be/en/research-institutes/ldri) under the supervision of Prof. Raphaël Frédérick and work in collaboration with the other members of the consortium. The ideal candidates for this position should demonstrate an interest in chemical biology, biophysical chemistry or a related field and have a strong interest in protein-protein interactions analysis. We are particularly looking for candidates with a strong interest and/or background in chemical biology of proteins and peptide chemistry, protein purification handling and characterization, molecular biophysics.
