Job description:

Postdoc (f/m/d) for ML-assisted reconstruction of scattering data

A member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,200 people. The Center’s focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Institute of Radiation Physics conducts research for states of matter under extreme conditions and in very small dimensions. This research is supported by a interdisciplinary Young Investigators Group (YIG) that researches and applies recent machine learning techniques for fast simulation of complex systems as well as reconstruction of, among others, X-ray scattering data. However, the development of robust physics-informed reconstruction methods is a very challenging task as it requires advanced knowledge of recent modalities at large-scale X-ray facilities, profound mathematical background as well as strong interest in machine learning.

The YIG welcomes applications of scientists familiar with scattering techniques (such as Small-Angle X-ray scattering, or Coherent Diffraction Imaging) who are interested or experienced in data science. The applicant is going to translate prior knowledge of scattering techniques into robust data-driven methods that allow fast and robust reconstruction.

The position will be available as soon as possible. The employment contract is limited to three years.
