Your Job:

Realisation of coupled mesoscale simulations with the Weather Reasearch and Forecasting (WRF) Model and the EURopean Air pollution Dispersion-Inverse Model (EURAD-IM) Advancement of non-Gaussian data assimilation by particle filter and smoother methods (via remote sensing and cloud-motion forecasts) Improved fault tolerance of running ensemble computations Participation in code refactoring including change of data structure for vectorization and memory management (hybrid parallelization MPI OpenMP/OpenACC to improve the parallelization on large scale CPU machines,Code refactoring including change of data structure for vectorization Node level optimization and vectorization of the stiff gas phase ODE solver IO & Data Flow : usage of in-transit compression mechanisms within HDF5 and NetCDF Testing at Scales with at least 1024 ensemble members and a data assimilation cycle of 24 hours, utilizing around 50,000 cores

Your Profile:

Doctoral degree in meteorology, computational physics, applied mathematics or a comparable discipline Profound knowledge in atmospheric physics, and a strong interest in international collaboration Besides strong technical and organizational skills, it is expected that the results of the research are presented in peer reviewed publications and at international conferences Proven experience in numerical modelling and parallel programming skills using state of the art software languages, such as FORTRAN 90 or C(++), is a requirement. Sound command of English language is mandatory
