The Intervertebral disc research laboratory of Dr. Svenja Illien-Junger in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to join the team. This specific position is being created to support our ongoing projects in identifying mediators that target regulators of matrix production and cellularity in intervertebral disc degeneration. Candidates with a PhD in biological and biomedical sciences or related field with prior experience in molecular biology are being sought. Experience in intervertebral disc biology, mouse models, cell culture, PCR, methods to investigate protein-protein interactions, RNAseq, and transfection would be most relevant to this project. The ability to work with mice will be integral to this project.
Our ideal candidate would be someone seeking a future research career in musculoskeletal research, in academia or industry. A good publication record is required, and any prior experience with grant writing and obtaining funding is a plus. Opportunities to advance your career by obtaining career development grant or K grants would be highly encouraged and supported by the laboratory.
· PhD within the last 2 years
· Background in orthopaedic research preferred
· Effective communication skills, self-motivated with a strong work ethic
· Ability to work both, independently in in a collaborative group environment
This position is funded for 3 years, with an annually renewable appointment based on performance. The appointment will be in the Department of Orthopaedics, at the Emory University School of Medicine. Salary will be commensurate with experience, following the NIH guidelines for post-doctoral fellows.
