Post Doctoral Fellow (Bioinformatics) GIS
The Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) has an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Fellow (Bioinformatics) to join a population-scale genomics initiative that aims to create a comprehensive data bank with integrated genetic, clinical and lifestyle data. In its pilot phase, this effort has completed whole-genome sequencing of 10K individuals, and has delivered a catalogue of common genetic variants across three ethnic populations (Wu D. et al. 2019). Now, the challenge is to scale up genetic data production to a further 100K individuals. By joining our multi-disciplinary team, you will be involved in efforts to set up a high-throughput data analysis workflow, devise solutions for managing and controlling access to petabytes of information, and eventually apply the developed tools to deliver one of the largest population genomics efforts in Singapore to date.
Responsibilities Design, develop and implement an efficient workflow for analysing results from high-throughput sequencing experiments • Perform analysis of complex datasets to troubleshoot trends, and coordinate with team members to refine the production workflow accordingly • Design, execute and document analyses to validate changes to the production workflow • Implement standards and best practices (e.g. GA4GH) • Write technical documentation and deliver internal training on various aspects of the production set up • Work with large-scale genomics datasets to deliver insights into genetic variation within local populations • Present analysis outcomes internally and externally, and collaborate with team members to publish results • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related • Proficiency in R and Python, applied to task automation and data analysis • Applied statistics and analysis skills • Demonstrated experience in analysis of high-throughput sequencing data • Experience in population / statistical genetics • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a team • Ability to learn quickly on the job • Familiarity with various tools such as AWS, or Docker and an instinct for automation is a plus • Experience working in an accredited Medical Laboratory is a plus (ISO 15189, ISO 13485, CLIA) For further inquiries, you may also contact email@example.com
