A POST DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP in Small Animal brain Imaging

at the Department of Integrative Medical Biology

Description of the project

The Kempe Foundation finances a postdoctoral fellowship within the Marcellino, Sultan and Rieckmann Laboratories at IMB to participate in joint research projects at SARIF (Small Animal Research Imaging Facility).

The research groups consist of preclinical and clinical researchers with a focus on non-invasive MRI-based methods to detect brain network fidelity in neurodegenerative disease and normal aging. Additional projects investigate structural plasticity and connectivity in the brain during learning.

The fellowship involves participating exclusively with MRI acquisition in rodents and image data analysis; however, the fellow will be in several collaborative projects and encouraged to develop new directions within the projects.

Qualifications

Eligible to apply are individuals with a PhD, and priority will be given to applicants who graduated within three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the position may be offered to a candidate who has completed the doctorate earlier. Special grounds include leave of absence because of sickness, parental leave, clinical service, union duties, or other similar circumstances.

The fellow must have a PhD in a relevant area such as basic, clinical or behavioral neuroscience, in which technical expertise in small animal MRI including image and advanced statistical analysis will be of value. Prior experience in anesthesia and handling of small animals is essential.

The current projects involve work with murine animal models of neurodegeneration and will involve small animal MRI imaging. Additional responsibilities will include immunohistochemical evaluation of brain tissue.

The applicants will be expected to contribute to ongoing projects and will be encouraged to actively develop new lines of research in the field.

The successful candidate will be proficient in spoken English and have prior experience of writing reports/manuscripts in English.

Application

The application should be in Swedish or English and include:

1. A brief cover letter (about one page) that describes the applicant’s research experience, research interests, and suitability for the project.

2. Curriculum vitae including information about academic degrees (with verifications), technical expertise, employments, list of publications, and names and contact information for at least two references.

For more information, contact Associate professor Fahad Sultan, fahad.sultan@umu.se and/or Assistant professor Daniel Marcellino, daniel.marcellino@umu.se, Department of Integrative Medical Biology, Umeå University, 901 87 Umeå, Sweden

The postdoctoral fellowship is for two years. Start date upon agreement.

How to apply

The applications will be discarded or, if the applicant wishes, returned two years after the position has been filled. Applications that are submitted electronically should be in Word or PDF format.

Your complete application, marked with reference number FS 2.1.6-1954-19, should be sent to medel@diarie.umu.se (state the reference number as subject) or to the Registrar, Umeå University, SE-901 87 Umeå, Sweden to arrive December 2nd, 2019 at the latest.

We look forward to receiving your application!
