Job description:

The Institute of Energy and Climate Research – Systems Analysis and Technology Evaluation (IEK-STE) deals with the analysis of complex Systems in the fields of energy technology, energy industry, climate protection and energy policy. The focus is on interdisciplinary approaches that investigate key aspects of technological development and its effects on the environment and the economy. In addition to scientific purposes, the results also serve to advise the economy and politics.

Your Job:

  • Numerical and analytical investigations of the stability of power systems and other energy infrastructures

  • Development and application of data analytical methods

  • Contribution to two third party funded project CoNDyNet2 (BMBF) and Uncertainty Quantification (Helmholtz association)

  • Dissemination of scientific results and presentation on national and international conferences

  • Mentoring of doctoral researchers and master students

Your Profile:

  • Study (master`s degree) of physics or a related field (mathematics, computer science, engineering) preferably with a PhD
  • Experience in statistical physics, nonlinear dynamics or data science
  • A background in network science or machine learning is of advantage
  • Demonstrated programming skills (Python, Julia or Matlab)
  • Interest in energy technologies and the transformation of the energy system
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international, interdisciplinary team across institutes
  • Very good communication and organizational skills
  • Fluent command of English language
  • High flexibility and willingness to carry out business trips
