PhD Studentship in Quantum Sensors for Early Disease Diagnosis
UCL EPSRC DTP award

Applications are invited for a fully funded EPSRC DTP PhD Studentship to work with Prof Rachel McKendry (London Centre for Nanotechnology and Division of Medicine) on Quantum Materials for Early Disease Diagnosis, affiliated to the i-sense EPSRC IRC Next Steps Award in Agile Early Warning Sensing Systems for Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Resistance (www.i-sense.org.uk)

The studentship will cover Home/EU tuition fees and an annual stipend of no less than £17,009 increasingly annually with inflation. The studentship is funded for 4 years on a full-time basis. The successful applicant is expected to start by 1 December 2019.

Studentship Details

We seek to recruit an outstanding engineer/physical scientist to build a new generation of quantum sensors for early disease diagnosis at the point of care. This exciting PhD project is aligned to the i-sense EPSRC IRC, a large interdisciplinary research collaboration, led by UCL, which aims to detect infectious diseases much earlier than ever before (Director Prof Rachel McKendry).

The research will aim to harness the unique properties of quantum materials to develop an ultra-sensitive diagnostic devices to detect the very early stages of infection. This project will involve the use of novel materials and optical detection systems.
