Institute of Functional Epigenetics
Area of research:
Contract time limit:
As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.
At the Institute of Functional Epigenetics you will find a scientifically stimulating international environment. Supported by an excellent infrastructure you will aim to solve fundamental questions of cell biology.
Size is a fundamental cellular property that is not only tightly linked to cell function and growth, but also sets the scale of all intracellular processes. We take an interdisciplinary approach at the interface between quantitative biology and biophysics and employ budding yeast as a model to understand fundamental principles of cell size regulation. Using live-cell microscopy, cell biology, and mathematical modelling, we aim to obtain a quantitative understanding of how cells coordinate growth and division to control their size, and how cell size is adjusted upon changes in nutrient conditions.
For a new project starting in March 2020 we are looking for a highly motivated
PhD student – Quantitative cell biology (f/m/d)
who wants to combine experimental and modelling approaches to reveal how cells control their size.
Applications should include a letter of motivation describing your research interests.
Master’s degree in cell biology, biophysics or similar fieldsWet lab experience and basic skills in molecular and cell biologyStrong background in math and programming experienceInterest in interdisciplinary and quantitative biologyExcellent skills in spoken and written English and German
