Cutting-edge medicine requires research.

Applications are invited for a PhD position in the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in the University Clinic of the Technical University of Dresden. Chronic inflammation is a feature of obesity. Glucocorticoids are stress hormones produced by the adrenal gland well described for their strong anti-inflammatory effects. They also regulate early steps of adipogenesis and target adipocyte progenitors. Our group has strong experience in the fields of obesity/diabetes type II (Chatzigeorgiou et al., 2014; García-Martín et al., 2015; Chung et al., 2017; Alexaki et al., 2016; Grzybek et al., 2018), endocrine pathways (Alexaki et al., 2018; Yilmaz et al., 2019; Ziogas et al., 2020) and inflammatory diseases (Alexaki et al., 2017; Fodelianaki et al., 2019; Ziogas et al., 2020).

Starting at 1st of May 2020 we are looking for a highly motivated

In this project we will investigate the role of the glucocorticoid receptor in macrophages and adipocytes in the context of obesity. Moreover, we will study how its function can be regulated by metabolic pathways. Using transgenic mouse strains, we aim to reveal the role of the glucocorticoid receptor in chronic inflammatory diseases, such as obesity and associated diabetes type II.
