The Department Interface Design is looking for


PhD student (f/m/d) in the fields of Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Sciences or Chemistry


Tasks



  • Investigation of the chemical and electronic surface and interface structure of materials and thin films present in (tandem) solar cell structures by direct and inverse photoemission and (if necessary) complementing x-ray techniques

  • Independent communication with collaboration partners to organize sample exchange and measurement campaigns

  • Prepare and present project reports / results 

  • Present and publish results at international conferences / workshops and in high-quality peer-reviewed scientific journals, respectively

  • Help in maintenance and operation of the UHV analysis system

Requirements

  • Completed Diploma or Master Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Sciences or Chemistry

  • Experience in handling and maintaining UHV equipment as well as expertise in photoelectron spectroscopy and in evaluation of related data
  • Experience in synchrotron-based analytics (x-ray absoprtion/emission)
  • Mature, sound engineering judgment, analytical ability, evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills (English proficiency required; German proficiency advantageous)
  • A sound background in semiconductor physics (preferably photovoltaic energy conversion) is advantageous
