PhD Scholarship within Phosphorus Recovery from Wastewater Sludge

At the Department of Biology, SDU we are looking for amotivated candidate to study the plant availability of P from waste watersludge as well as speciation of P and Fe species by different analyticalchemical techniques, such as e.g. 31P NMR spectroscopy, P-K edgeXANES and Diffusive gradients in thin films, as well as plant experiments. Thecandidate should have a strong background in both plant ecology and chemistry.The candidate should have analytical chemistry and materials characterizationskills and experience by e.g., NMR spectroscopy and P XANES will be preferred.The candidate should be independent and able to communicate fluently inEnglish, have good writing skills as well as possess good interpersonalskills.

The PhD scholarship covers the area of biogeochemistry and analytical chemistry and will be aligned with ongoing research at theFreshwater Ecology group at the Department of Biology and the InorganicChemistry group at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy,University of Southern Denmark.

The PhD candidate will be appointedto the Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark with a mainsupervisor Kasper Reitzel (reitzel@biology.sdu.dk) from this department and aco-supervisor Ulla Gro Nielsen (ugn@sdu.dk) from the Department of Physics,Chemistry and Pharmacy and David W. O’Connell from the University of Dublin(TCD). The candidate is expected to spend approx six months at the Universityof Dublin during the project.
