PhD Position on “Simulating Cytoskeletal Dynamics”


at the institute for Theoretical Soft Matter and Biophysics (www.fz-juelich.de/ics/ics-2). The institute has a strong track record in computer simulations of active matter. We have recently started to develop models to simulate mixtures of cytoskeletal filaments and molecular motors [1-3]. In this PhD project, we aim to investigate flows and active force generation in the cytoskeleton of biological cells. We will address the system from the point of view of ‘living matter’ and focus on the non-equilibrium physics aspects of the system. Your research will have a strong focus on high performance computing for networks of cytoskeletal filaments, molecular motors, and crosslinkers.


Your profile:Applicants should be ambitious, highly motivated, and creative. Expertise in theoretical or computational physics or a related discipline is mandatory. Experience with soft matter physics and statistical mechanics will be helpful. Candidates will work both individually and collaboratively and should have good skills in spoken and written English.
