Job description:

The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful computer systems for scientific and technical applications in Europe and makes it available for research purposes to scientists at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Germany, and throughout Europe. Important fields of the work of the “mathematics and education” department at JSC include mathematical modeling and the development and optimization of innovative numerical methods and algorithms on massively parallel supercomputers.

Your Job:

  • Develop new mathematical methods and theory for solving stochastic partial differential equations to high accuracy in arbitrary dimensions

  • Solve related inverse problems for parameter estimation

  • Apply these methods to problem in biology, economics & finance, engineering, and/or physics

  • Make use of state-of-the-art HPC facilities at JSC

Your Profile:

  • Master degree in the field of mathematics and/or computational science
  • Strong background in mathematics such as stochastics (maximum-likelihood estimation, Ito calculus, martingale theory) and/or numerical analysis (partial differential equations, numerical integration)
  • Good programming skills in either C/C++ or Python
  • Social competence and good communication skills for collaborative work in and with interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, command of German is helpful
