PhD position in Molecular Cell Biology
at the Division of Molecular and Experimental Surgery starting from 01.04.2020

Your tasks:
Our laboratory is interested in the role of stromal cells (fibroblasts, endothelial cells, immune cells) in the development of colorectal cancer. The specific project of the successful candidate focuses on the role of tumor microenvironment-dependent fibroblast polarization in colorectal cancer. To this goal, cancer-associated fibroblast heterogeneity will be characterized at the molecular level and the impact of the different fibroblast activation stages on tumorigenesis will be investigated in different in vitro models and experimental animal systems.

For detailed information see recent publications of our group: Naschberger et al., The Journal of Clinical Investigation 126, 4187-4204 (2016), Wohlfahrt et al., Nature 566, 344-349 (2019) and Langer et al., The Journal of Clinical Investigation 129, 4691-4707 (2019).

The project is embedded within the Interdisciplinary Center of Clinical Research (IZKF) and the German Research Foundation (DFG)-funded research group FOR 2438 on Cell Plasticity in Colorectal Carcinogenesis. The successful candidate will be integrated in the research training group Life@FAU which provides a structured educational programme with regular meetings, workshops and seminars for PhD students.
