Job description:

As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

The primary objective of the Institute of Diabetes and Regeneration Research (IDR) at the Helmholtz Zentrum München is to develop regenerative therapeutic approaches to treat diabetes mellitus. In vitro generation of ß-cells from pluripotent stem cells for cell-replacement therapy or triggering endogenous mechanisms of ß-cell repair have great potential in the field of regenerative medicine.

Our Mission
Together with the Institute of Computational Biology (a globally recognized department for innovations) we are now seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate for data analysis in single cell genomics, in data analysis and modeling of stem cell differentiation and in vivo regeneration, anchored at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich.
Single cell genomics is revolutionizing biology and medicine, combining the advantages of bulk sequencing techniques and microscopic analyses of single cells. Rapid technological advances now allow the profiling of genomes, transcriptomes and epigenomes at an unprecedented level of resolution. In order to fully exploit these techniques, it is necessary to constantly develop and adapt computational methods of analysis. To that end, the Institute of Diabetes Research together with the Institute of Computational Biology are looking for a PhD candidate aiming to develop computational methods while closely collaborating with wet-lab partners.

Your responsibilities

Analysis of single cell transcriptomic data in close collaboration with experimental partnersImplement, develop and extend methods for processing and analyzing single cell RNAseq (e.g. single cell RNAseq, Perturb-seq, CITE-seq, spatial transcriptomics, in vivo barcoding and lineage tracing etc.) 

Your qualifications

M.Sc. degree in bioinformatics, systems biology, computer science, mathematics, physics or equivalent Background in statistical data analysis, ideally for RNAseq dataStrong interest in biological applicationsPassion for computers, science, big data, machine learing and scientific work                Proficient in written and spoken EnglishTeam player being comfortable in interacting with colleagues in an interdisciplinary setting
