Job description:
We are currently looking for an ambitious PhD candidate with strong theoretical and/or experimental background to join our research group as part of the Innovative Training Network of the European Commission MICROCOMB "Applications and Fundamentals of Microresonator Frequency Combs". This pan-European initiative addresses theoretical and experimental aspects of interdisciplinary importance related to microresonator frequency comb sources and to the corresponding applications in the fields of high-precision metrology, high-speed data transmission, and ultrafast signal processing.
The PhD project aims at concepts for hybrid multi-chip integration of frequency comb generator modules, combining microresonators, pump lasers, and monitor diodes in a single chip-scale package. To this end, we will use advanced 3D-nanoprinting techniques for in-situ fabrication of single-mode waveguides that connect optical chips. The project covers the design and simulation of the structures, the fabrication and characterization, as well as proof-of-concept demonstrations. We expect to show the viability of integrated comb source modules for applications in communications, signal processing, and metrology.
For this project, we can build upon a scientifically sound base of ongoing research activities. We offer an inspiring, attractive, interdisciplinary, and internationally recognized scientific environment with access to excellent research facilities.
