The Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Computer Science at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario invite applications for an NSERC Canada Research Chair Tier 2 position in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The start date for this position can be as early as January 1, 2020, but is negotiable with the Faculty Dean.

The ideal candidate must have expertise in both biological science and computer science, being active in research from both disciplines. Applicants should have a completed PhD and post-doctoral training that involves research in some combination of the following areas of interest. Desired expertise in biological sciences includes, but is not limited to, biological systems and network modelling, population genomics, proteomics, structural biology, metabolomics, or computational biology. Desired expertise in computer science includes algorithms, computational intelligence, machine learning, data mining, modelling, optimization, or data analytics. The candidate should have demonstrated evidence of, or potential for, external research funding; be committed to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student supervision at all levels of study.
The successful candidate should feel equally at home in both the Biological Sciences and Computer Science departments. They will be expected to collaborate with faculty from both departments and to teach senior undergraduate and graduate level research-oriented courses suitable to both departments. The successful candidate will have opportunities to network with several closely related research groups on campus beyond the Departments of Biological Sciences and Computer Science, such as in the Centre for Biotechnology, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, Environmental Sustainability Research Centre, Centre for Vector-Borne Disease, and Centre for Neuroscience.
The Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Computer Science are dynamic departments within the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. Both departments enjoy large and growing undergraduate and graduate student populations as well as active, diverse, and collaborative research faculty. Biological Sciences has established MSc and PhD programs. Computer Science has an established MSc program, and is in advanced stages of introducing a new PhD program.
