NCU-QMUL Joint Research Institute of Biomedical Sciences Welcomes Applications for Principal Investigators

Nanchang University Queen Mary School

Nanchang, China

Nanchang University (NCU) and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) have an established joint undergraduate programme leading to the award of two degrees, a bachelor of science in biomedical sciences (QMUL) and a bachelor of medicine in clinical medicine (NCU) after five years of study. The joint programme is delivered by staff from both NCU Medical College and Queen Mary University of London. Since 2013, the programme has recruited 7 cohorts of students, with the third cohort set to graduate this summer. To further boost the research-lead teaching, the two universities have initiated the NCU-QMUL Joint Research Institute of Biomedical Sciences that comprise faculty from both universities. Thus, we now seek principal investigators to join the Joint Research Institute who will be able to take advantage of the excellent resources and scientific specialties available from both Universities. Principal investigators will also have opportunities to work at both sites on short term exchanges on collaborative projects. The current call is to recruit principal investigators who will be based at the NCU site but with the scope for deep collaboration with our London partner outlined above.

Candidates for these positions must have a PhD, MD or equivalent level degree and demonstrate a continuous and outstanding publication track record, having demonstrated extraordinary capability of leadership in research. The candidates are expected to work full time basis in front line research, but with a smaller contribution to the joint programme in teaching one of the following modules, physiology, microbiology and pathology in English. Salaries are commensurate with experience and academic credential. Salary, start-up packages and lab space are generous and competitive.

QMUL is an internationally prestigious research-intensive institution. It is a member of the Russell Group in the United Kingdom (equivalent to Ivy League in the United States). Nine Nobel laureates are associated with Queen Mary as staff or students.

Nanchang University is in Nanchang City, the capital of Jiangxi Province and one of the most dynamic cities in China. The University was listed as one of National “211 Project” universities and now listed as one of “the double first-class construction universities” by China Ministry of Education. The Joint Research Institute is set up with state-of-art facilities within the campus of Nanchang University Medical College, where Institute of Biological Sciences, Institute of Translational Medicine and Institute of Basic Medical Sciences are located. The Joint Research Institute aims to facilitate and build upon the collaboration between clinicians and non-clinical researchers.

There are 10 principal investigator positions open and applications particularly encouraged in the following scientific areas: cancer biology, cell biology, genomics & population health, neurobiology, novel therapeutics, and structural cell biology.

In addition, candidates who graduated with PhD/MD or equivalent within five years in a broad range of biomedical sciences are welcome to apply for junior faculty positions in Nanchang University Medical College.
