Summary of the role/position
Applications are sought for an independent skills development fellowship at the University of Exeter, fully funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC).
This MRC scheme targets two types of researcher: talented medical and bioscience graduates who wish to undertake a focussed period of quantitative research, or highly skilled quantitative researchers with backgrounds in computing, chemistry, engineering, physics or mathematics who have a clear vision for how their work can impact current questions in health or medical research.
The successful fellow will be mentored by two cross-disciplinary researchers for a fixed-term of 3-years. She/he will also have access to a research package that includes laboratory costs
and travel funds that form the basis of a personalised international training and networking programme.

The successful candidate will be in post no later than the end of March, 2020.
Potential research mentors from any faculty of the university should be contacted directly by the applicant; research groups can be found on the website.
There are no restrictions on the research fields of applicants but Exeter has research strengths in the development of quantitative methodologies for health services research, genomic medicine, fungal and bacterial infections and healthy ageing.

There is a three stage application process:
Stage 1: Please submit a full CV and complete the Expression of Interest form, via the University of Exeter application system. You will be asked to specify two potential mentors in your Expression of Interest. Deadline Monday 11th November 2019.
Stage 2: This is a prestigious MRC fellowship scheme, therefore, a 5-page research proposal and a 1-page skills development plan will be requested from candidates shortlisted for the next stage.
Deadline: 2pm Thursday 19th December 2019.
Stage 3: Shortlisted candidates invited to interview.
Your research proposal will be reviewed by the Host Leadership Team, who will also obtain confirmation from your project sponsors that they are happy to support the project. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit Exeter to meet colleagues and undertake a formal interview.
