The Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor, in the broad area of structure, function, and mechanism, with an emphasis on molecular systems in complex disease states. Current research areas include biochemistry and molecular biology of gene expression, plant biochemistry, virology, protein structure-function relationships, redox biology and metabolic control mechanisms . The department also administers undergraduate and graduate programs conferring B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry. (https://biochem.ncsu.edu/)

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a rigorous and independently funded interdisciplinary research program in systems level examination of biological mechanisms using modern structural, chemical biology, imaging, and/or quantitative analytical methods. We are especially interested in candidates who use one or more methods of macromolecular structural determination and/or biophysical characterization and apply molecular insights to understand systems with translational application in medicine or agriculture. This position will have opportunities for collaboration with biochemistry faculty who have complementary expertise, and will bridge collaborative efforts between the departments of Chemistry, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Molecular Biomedical Sciences. In particular, this position will interface with research programs that are focused on mechanistic characterization of signal transduction, epigenetic control mechanisms, metabolic flux, cancer metabolomics, lipid metabolism, biosensors and signaling, drug development and regenerative medicine. NC State provides a rich environment for protein structure and metabolomics research at the basic/translational interface, as well as access to state-of-the-art macromolecular structure determination instruments through university-supported facilities. Our location in the Research Triangle area offers a wealth of collaborative interactions with Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Science. The proposed faculty member may be considered for an associate appointment in relevant departments as appropriate. Applicants for positions at a rank higher than assistant professor will be expected to demonstrate a track record of extramural funding and international prominence commensurate with expectations for achievement of that rank.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field, a minimum of two years’ postdoctoral or equivalent experience, and excellent qualifications in interdisciplinary research and education.

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three-page research statement incorporating a vision for developing a strong research program at NC State, brief teaching philosophy and statement of teaching interests, including potential course offerings, brief diversity statement, and contact information for three professional references online at https://jobs.ncsu.edu/ (position #00007032). Review of applications will begin October 21, 2019. A link to a full description of the position can be found here https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings
