Context of intervention
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a mission-driven Research and Technology Organization (RTO) that develops advanced technologies and delivers innovative products and services to industry and society. The successful candidate will join ERIN’s Environmental Research and Technology Platform (ERTP). ERTP makes state-of-the art monitoring, analytical, computational and modelling resources accessible to internal users as well as external partners, such as industry, public stakeholders and academics. It offers a unique combination of high-level expertise, state-of-the art instruments and fully equipped labs for environmental analysis, integrative biology, as well as a dense hydro-climatological and biodiversity measurement network.
The trainee will be proposed to join the Green Tech Platform team. New activities are developed in the bioprocess facility, among others on the growth of algae in bioreactors.
The aim of the internship will be to assess the effects of different parameters on algae growth in small to medium bioreactors (design of experiment, DoE). The trainee will contribute to sample preparation, inoculation, growth control, as well as harvesting of algae. Extraction of metabolites will be performed (putatively with evaluation of antimicrobial properties), together with possible experiments involving the induction of a cellulase in C-starved algae. Analyses at the microscope will be carried out to monitor eventual morphological changes in the different conditions.
- Master student (M2) in biology/biochemistry or bioprocess
- Knowledge in bioprocess engineering and molecular biology
- English or French (spoken and written) is required
