Context of intervention

Safety training is top priority for many of research centers as well as industries. In particular, within chemical laboratories are riddled with potential hazards. New starters often go through rigorous training to avoid injury and also in some cases, death. As the chemical laboratories are ever evolving, employers need to continuously upskill and retrain employees to ensure their safety. In this internship, we propose to exploit augmented reality technology within LIST laboratories in order to increase safety, security, and productivity of employees.

We propose firstly to identify the machines and materials of laboratories by Image Recognition Techniques (IRT). All the instructions including video, text, etc. could be secondly provided in any time a worker need it via Head-mounted AR such as HoloLens.


As an AR engineering (master) intern, your principal work assignments will involve:

  • Carry out a state of arts of existing methods for laboratory training using Head-mounted AR
  • Identifying best approach to recognize automatically the machines and materials of laboratory
  • Defining the storyboard of an AR application prototype for chemical laboratory training
  • Development Augmented Reality (AR) using HoloLens
  • Perform usability testing and generate reports that help guide the future development



  • Master Degree in Computer science, Computer Graphics, Computer vision


  • Exposure to Augmented Reality (AR) or Mixed Reality (MR) concepts, hardware, and tools
  • A good working knowledge with Unity 3D, C#, Visual studio tools
  • Working with Hololens sdk is a plus
  • Hands-on engineering skills with a proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Self-starter and able to work in a collaborative and results oriented environment
  • Knowledge of computer graphics is a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) with the team


  • English is a must
  • French is an asset
