About us:

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) is a partner organisation within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, and a vision to ensure the UK maintains its world-leading position in research and innovation.

BBSRC invests in world-class bioscience research and training on behalf of the UK public. Our aim is to further scientific knowledge, to promote economic growth, wealth and job creation and to improve quality of life in the UK and beyond.

Funded by Government, we support research and training in universities and strategically funded institutes. BBSRC research and the people we fund are helping society to meet major challenges, including food security, green energy and healthier, longer lives. Our investments underpin important UK economic sectors, such as farming, food, industrial biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

About the role:

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in research and innovation, excellent analytical skills and the drive and determination to apply these skills to enable new insights. Within the Policy, Strategy and Evidence domain, we are seeking to further develop our analytical capabilities, exploiting advances in auto-classification, text analytics and data visualisation. With data at the heart of our work, we are enabling rapid, data driven insights into our portfolio of research investments, outputs and outcomes to support strategic planning and decision making across UKRI-BBSRC.

In this role, you will be closely involved in this work which interfaces with many areas of the office, spanning the full remit of UKRI-BBSRC science. You will play an important role in analysing the portfolio of UKRI-BBSRC research investments, outputs and outcomes, reporting on these portfolios, looking for trends and patterns in the data, and providing the evidence base to inform UKRI-BBSRC decision making and strategic planning. You will make use of a range of technologies and techniques with support from the team, including network analysis (to explore collaborations and interactions), text mining and clustering, data management using Alteryx, as well as data visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

About you:

The role is highly analytical – you will be numerate and IT literate, with experience of accurate data analysis and interpretation. Experience of data visualisation and presentation is essential. You will be well organised and adaptable to change, with the ability to work flexibly across a range of activities and competing demands. Excellent team working, and interpersonal skills are essential, together with effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders. You will be able to design and implement analytical approaches in response to stakeholder insight needs and communicate gained insights back to the stakeholders. You will be able to work to a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and have genuine interests in the aims and objectives of UKRI-BBSRC.
