The School of Biology & Environmental Science at University College Dublin is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Above the Bar) in Environmental Sustainability. The School offers a diverse portfolio of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including a BSc degree in Environmental Biology, and MSc degrees in Applied Environmental Science and Global Change Biology. In addition, the School offers an online MSc programme (by negotiated learning) in Environmental Sustainability, with this post being strongly aligned to the running of this programme.

We are looking for a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for teaching and student engagement, with research expertise in the broad area of ecosystem management. We are especially interested in research on the effects of external disturbances on plant physiological responses and the biosphere, particularly atmosphere exchange of trace gases and energy, and the consequent impact on ecosystem services. The candidate should complement and engage with current academic staff and research programmes within the School and wider UCD community. The successful candidate will be responsible for further curriculum development, co-ordination and daily management of the MSc Environmental Sustainability programme including liaison with academics from eight Schools across the university currently involved in the programme. The post-holder will also be responsible for the organisation of research project modules, and general daily communication with the students taking the programme. The role will involve further development of innovative approaches with respect to delivery and assessment of the course material, and recruitment of students. The role will provide the post-holder with the opportunity to develop and deliver new modules in the area of environmental biology / sustainability, depending on the specific background of the successful candidate. The post-holder will also be required to provide input into other relevant degrees in the School.

Candidates should have a PhD in an appropriate discipline and alongside their teaching and administration duties, will have the opportunity to develop their own research agenda. Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
