Applications are invited for a 14 month fixed-term half-time (0.5 FTE) appointment in the School of Natural Sciences as Lecturer Below the Bar (Agri-Sustainability & Climate Change). The Lecturer will contribute to coordinating, lecturing, supervising research and driving growth, impact and international reputation of (a) the inter-disciplinary 1 year Masters degree in Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (MScCCAFS) in collaboration with the global CCAFS program ( and other partners and (b) the undergraduate degree pathway in Plant & AgriBiosciences (PAB) within the School of Natural Sciences. The Lecturer will be located within the NUI Galway School of Natural Sciences, and aligned with the Plant and AgriBiosciences Research Centre (PABC) of the Ryan Institute. Candidates with inter-disciplinary research interests and experience in relation to climate change and agri-sustainability, particularly at the global level, are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will complement existing expertise within the MScCCAFS programs the MScAgriBiosciences program and the overall Plant & AgriBiosciences Research Centre (PABC). The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to postgraduate teaching on the MScCCAFS program, teaching on the Plant & AgriBiosciences undergraduate degree pathway, and supervision and coordination of research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She or he will also contribute to the administration of these programmes, including international recruitment, curriculum review and ongoing development of the MScCCAFS program.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to lever internship opportunities to strengthen the educational offerings of the MScCCAFS and the overall PABC. The candidate should be willing to travel internationally (including to developing countries) to strengthen educational and research links with partners, and to coordinate and supervise research activities of NUI Galway MScCCAFS students in collaboration with national and global partners. Overall, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute via the MScCCAFS and PAB undergraduate programs to the alignment of educational activities with the research activities of the Plant and AgriBiosciences Research Centre (PABC) and the Ryan Institute within NUI Galway.

€38,644 to €59,976 p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
(This appointment will be made on the Lecturer Below the Bar scale in line with current Government pay policy)
