The appointment will be on UCL Grade 0. The salary range will be Grade 8 £44,674 – £52,701 per annum or Grade 9 £57,279- £62,283 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The UCL Genetics Institute (UGI), and the Research Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment (GEE), are seeking to recruit an outstanding individual developing world-class research in an area of Microbial Genomics. The post holder will undertake independent and collaborative research examining aspects of the distribution of genetic diversity in microbial populations or communities. The post holder’s research interests may include, but are not restricted to: microbial evolution; microbial ecology; clinical microbiology; metagenomics. We particularly welcome applicants whose research takes advantage of advanced bioinformatic, statistical and computational tools. The post holder will be encouraged to establish collaborations with colleagues working at UCL, both within GEE and the wider UCL community, as well as at related institutions in London, including: UCL-affiliated hospitals; the Zoological Society of London and the Natural History Museum. The successful applicant will also contribute to UCL’s portfolios of graduate and undergraduate teaching.
This is an open-ended post.
The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent qualification, a track record of high quality publications in international journals, an outstanding contribution to a body of knowledge and an international research profile with commensurate, sustained research or other outcomes appropriate to the discipline and ability to secure research funds from external sources.
To be appointed to Associate Professor in addition to the above the successful candidate will need to demonstrate an outstanding international research profile with substantial seminal contributions to knowledge or other outcomes appropriate to the discipline, evidence of academic leadership and a proven ability to lead, develop and motivate colleagues. Evidence of a significant impact of knowledge transfer/exchange on practice or on quality of life through ongoing engagement with communities are also among Essential Criteria.
