About the role:

We are currently looking for a Lead Biologist within the Drug Discovery Unit.

The successful candidate will devise, implement and deliver the biology strategy for lead optimisation projects progressing towards clinical candidate nomination. As the leader of a small multidisciplinary biology team you will have an excellent understanding of the drug discovery process to ensure the biology team delivers data which enables compound profiling, mechanistic understanding, disease positioning and clinical biomarker identification. You should also have significant cell biology experience and make a meaningful contribution to the practical delivery of projects.

This post will suit a highly motivated drug discovery expert who enjoys leading and working in multidisciplinary teams.

About you:

You will have a BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant biological science and significant experience in Bioscience in a drug discovery setting. A proven track record in drug discovery obtained in an academic, biotech or pharma environment is desirable. You should have experience of leading a discipline within a project, working across boundaries to achieve project aims and managing research collaborations. You should also have exposure to a wide range of biochemical and cellular techniques relevant to drug discovery and extensive cancer research experience. A PhD in a relevant biological science (or equivalent) is desirable.

Extensive knowledge of one or more areas of cancer biology, expertise of techniques to identify and measure pharmacodynamics biomarkers and experience of positioning agents in the clinic versus patient populations is desirable but not essential.
