Laboratory Technician (m/f)

UNiversity of Luxembourg

Luxembourg, Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB):

Laboratory Technician (m/f)

Area: Yeast culture, Mammalian cell culture (including iPSCs), Cell imaging, Metabolomics, Small Molecule Screening

The Enzymology & Metabolism Research Group at the LCSB is looking to hire a highly motivated and talented laboratory technician to assist doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in a Translational Biomedical Research project (ATP13A2 as an entry point for the study of Parkinson’s disease). In this project, we will investigate the mechanism through which certain gene mutations cause severe neurological impairments and explore therapeutic strategies. Yeast, zebrafish and iPSC-derived cellular models of the disease will be established and analysed applying Crispr/Cas9 technology, metabolomics as well as imaging-based phenotypic approaches. The models and defined phenotypic readouts will be used to test small molecule therapeutic treatments.

Your Role

Perform laboratory experiments, analyse results, ensure laboratory maintenance and order supplies to contribute to a successful implementation of the planned research.

Important technical competencies and tasks include:

  • Cell culture and differentiation
  • Cell transfection for gene silencing/overexpression
  • Immunohistochemical/immunofluorescent staining
  • Microscopy and image analysis
  • Small molecule testing on isolated protein targets and cultured cells
  • Molecular biology techniques, including cloning and (q)PCR

  • Order, gather, inventory, and stock supplies for laboratory use
  • Keep a record of current projects in a well-organized lab notebook

Your Profile

  • A technical, Bachelor or Master degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or similar
  • Experience with microbial and mammalian cell culture, molecular biology techniques, biochemical assays, protein purification, HPLC,and/or mass spectrometry will be considered as important assets
