The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, invites applications for the position of an independent
Helmholtz Junior Research Group Leader (with tenure option)
in the field of infectious disease research – No. 05/2020 –
HZI is Germany’s largest academic institution dedicated exclusively to infection research. In line with its translational mission, it develops new strategies for the early detection, prevention and treatment of bacterial and viral infections. Through its unique strength in natural product research, together with industry HZI is engaged in the discovery and development of novel anti-infectives. As a member of the German Centre for Infection Research (DZIF), HZI makes important contributions to fostering translational infection research on a national scale. Strategic partnerships with national and international universities, the university medicine and other research institutions have led to the establishment of several branch institutes addressing major challenges in the areas of clinically oriented research, individualized infection medicine, pharmaceutical research, RNA-based infection research, structural biology and data science. Strong networks within the Helmholtz Health Centres, enable cross-disease cooperation.
The candidates, highly qualified junior scientists holding a PhD or MD, should have an excellent scientific track record and postdoctoral experience in one of the following areas: Microbiology including microbiota, Virology, Immunology including vaccination and immunotherapy, Bioinformatics and Data Science, Drug Research.
The Junior Research Groups will be funded for a period of 5 years. Funding covers the positions of the group leader, a postdoctoral scientist, a PhD student, a technician as well as consumables and instrumentation. After a positive evaluation, the Junior Research Group Leader will be offered a permanent position at HZI.
The successful candidate can expect a lively scientific environment with a wide variety of exchange between HZI’s research topics and access to excellent infrastructure and networks. The Junior Research Group Leader will gain scientific independence and high visibility in the community and can enjoy outstanding leadership training at the Helmholtz Management Academy.
