At ahoi.digital, the cooperation platform for informatics at Hamburg’s higher education institutions, Universität Hamburg, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), and HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) are strengthening their cooperation in education, research, and technology transfer.

Junior professorships are aimed at researchers in the early stages of their career, within four years after completion of doctoral studies.

The Department of Informatics in the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a

JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP (W1) FOR INFORMATICS WITH A FOCUS ON DATA LITERACY EDUCATION

commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. JP 317.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to teach and conduct research in the Department of Informatics with a focus on data literacy education. The successful candidate is further expected to contribute to technical content and methodologies for teaching data literacy education and other IT concepts, and to help implement and evaluate them.

We are seeking someone with a publication and research record in data literacy or computer science education on a relevant topic in the field of informatics or education with a focus on IT.

The successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the current interfaculty network to develop and expand our data literacy education for students in all faculties, in cooperation with other roles and responsibilities to be established in this area. This includes providing ideas for the curriculum and innovative approaches to further development and coordination of the program, as well as offering your own courses in data literacy education. Gender and diversity expertise in designing courses is also desirable. The successful candidate is further expected to participate actively in the instruction of students pursuing a teacher training degree in the Department of Informatics—also in cooperation with the Professor of Computer Science Education in the Faculty of Education. Active involvement in contributing to the development of teacher training degree programs in informatics (for all school types and in both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs) is also expected.

Duties include working in one or more of the core research areas, emerging fields, or profile initiatives. Active participation in ahoi.digital, the cooperation platform for informatics at Hamburg’s higher education institutions, is expected.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Requirements: Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 18 HmbHG.

Additional Criteria: Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

Non-German speaking post holders are expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment providing they do not have the requisite skills when starting.

Junior professors have academic autonomy in their research and teaching. Applicants’ subject interests are expected to relate to topics in the area of databases and information systems.
