Junior Professor (W1)
in mucosal infection biology
with tenure-track option

We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of mucosal infection biology. The starting date is as soon as possible.
The applicant must demonstrate expertise in studying direct interactions or underlying mediators between microorganisms and mucosal tissues in the gastrointestinal tract based on experimental approaches in cell biology, immunology, microbiology, or bioinformatics. The position is located at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and must complement already existing expertise within the institute. We expect internationally recognized scientific contributions, funding, and teaching experience.
Interdisciplinary scientific cooperation with other departments and clinics of the Medical School, with the research areas of the RWTH Aachen University (such as SFB TRR 57, SFB TRR 219, and the IZKF-initiative “Gut-liver axis”), with the Helmholtz-Institute for Biomedical Engineering, and with other research institutions of the Euregio (e.g. University of Maastricht) are encouraged. In addition, an active commitment in the new medical student’s curriculum of the Medical Faculty (“Modellstudiengang Medizin Aachen”) and the master program “Biomedical Engineering” is expected.
The W1-position will be upgraded to a permanent W2-Professorship after positive evaluation not later than 6 years after appointment.
You should have a completed university degree and a special aptitude for scientific work which is generally verified by means of an outstanding doctorate and an excellent publication record. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include a research concept and a teaching portfolio. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within 5 years.
