Description* **


Applications are invited for a full-time position at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.  The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Radiology at Harvard Medical School with a hospital appointment as Assistant in Physics. The ideal candidates are expected to have a strong background in the field of biomedical optics, advanced optical microscopy, neuroimaging, and neurovascular coupling; and able to develop independently funded research programs. Demonstrations of excellence in interested area of research, verbal and written communications, mentoring experiences, and successful work in collaborations are highly desirable. 

Areas of interest include: 

·      Developing and adopting next-generation microscopy technologies for preclinical measurements of cerebral oxygenation and blood flow, including but not limited to two-photon microscopy and optical coherence tomography.

·      Utilizing microvascular imaging and modeling for better understanding and improvement of quantification and calibration of signals from the noninvasive human brain imaging modalities such as blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

·      Utilizing advanced optical microscopy technologies to investigate cortical microvascular blood flow and oxygen metabolism in healthy brain and during various pathological conditions in animal models. 

Requirements: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in engineering, neuroscience, applied physics, or equivalent, have strong computational skills, outstanding record of advancing technology, and have at least two years of postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate is expected to establish an extramurally funded, independent research program, working collaboratively with other investigators at the Martinos Center, and elsewhere at MGH, Harvard and MIT
