Institute Director and Chief Executive
Rothamsted Research is a world-leading, non-profit research centre that focuses on strategic agricultural science for the benefit of farmers and society. Founded in 1843 as the world’s first agricultural research station, we now offer state-of-the-art laboratory and conferencing facilities on our Harpenden and North Wyke campuses. We use our scientific assets and unrivalled agricultural systems knowledge to address current and future challenges affecting UK and global agriculture, from climate change and burgeoning human populations to dwindling natural resources and geopolitical upheaval. Our collaborative work with scientific and industry partners, and our multidisciplinary research links across 40+ industrialised and developing countries, mean we are ideally placed to make a positive difference to global society.
We are now seeking an exceptional individual to lead Rothamsted Research as Institute Director and Chief Executive. You will provide inspirational and strategic leadership across the Institute through delivering our current plan, advancing our scientific output and impact, and nurturing our commercial interests. The Director represents the Institute globally with farmers, research-led industry, government agencies and scientific organisations. Given our position as a leading centre of excellence and authority on sustainable agriculture and environmental change, you will also contribute regularly and meaningfully to relevant national and international debate.
To succeed in this high-profile role, you must demonstrate a clear affinity with Rothamsted’s mission and purpose, along with a strong and rounded understanding of the science that underpins our work.
