The Therapeutics Discovery Division is built around four platforms: The Institute for Applied Cancer Science (IACS), ORBIT (Oncology Research for Biologics and Immunotherapy Translation), TRACTION (Translational Research to Advance Therapeutics and Innovation in Oncology) and the Neurodegeneration Consortium.
TRACTION is the translational biology team within the Therapeutics Discovery Division. We employ disruptive technologies, innovative biomarker approaches, cutting-edge pre-clinical modeling and unparalleled access to patient data to accelerate drug development and inform innovative clinical trials. Through integration with basic and clinical research faculty across MD Anderson Cancer Center, we leverage a team science approach with unmatched focus on patient-centric research. In partnership with the drug discovery engines of Therapeutics Discovery, TRACTION scientists execute ground-breaking translational science in support of our mission to advance our portfolio of novel therapeutic concepts into transformative treatments.
As part of the TRACTION team, the Associate Scientist III will be part of our team of translational biologists who are responsible for leading preclinical translational activities to inform on clinical development of late-stage preclinical therapeutics. The position requires utilizing state-of-the-art preclinical models, platforms and assays to perform in vitro and in vivo experiments to discover, validate and translate tumor biology insights into informative clinical trials. These efforts will allow us to advance novel therapeutics currently under development by our Therapeutics Discovery teams and partners.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience employing cell and molecular biology techniques to exploit in vitro and in vivo systems to position therapeutics in the clinic, as well as possess excellent communication, collaboration, organization and leadership skills.
1.Under minimal supervision contribute to project team activities through laboratory experiments.
2.Utilize common molecular and cell biology skills including Western, ELISA, RNA quantification methods (Q-PCR), immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence to support late preclinical development of compounds that will be entering clinical development.
3.Perform common tissue culture techniques to develop biomarkers and test therapeutics.
4.Utilize genetic and pharmacologic tools to define mechanism of biology and discover/validate biomarkers that will be used to stratify patients for clinical testing of therapeutics.
5.Assist in the development and utilization of functional (ie soft agar, ex vivo, proliferation, etc.) cell based assays to support mechanisms of action and patient stratification biomarkers.
6.Perform dose response studies in support of patient stratification and biomarker development.
7.Provide support for in vivo pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and efficacy studies for biomarker and responder ID hypothesis discovery and testing.
8.Perform analysis of in vivo samples for assessment of pharmacodynamic and response biomarkers.
9.Effectively communicate program progress/issues to colleagues and contribute to project success.
10.Under minimal supervision, design, execute, document and interpret experiments.
11.Employ safe lab practices.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Enzymology, Pharmacology, Chemistry or related field.
Preferred: Master's or equivalent degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular biology or related field.
Required: Three years of relevant research experience in lab. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
Preferred: At least one year of relevant research and in a biotech or industry-like environment.
1.The applicant should have knowledge and experience with in vitro cell based models (ie. Soft agar, migration, invasion, etc.) utilizing common methods and reagents (ie. RNAi, dose response curves with small molecule inhibitors, Westerns, ELISAs, flow cytometry, etc.)
2.Experience working with mice using various methods to characterize and evaluate in vivo target and pathway biology as part of drug discovery efforts. These include protein (immunohistochemistry, IF, RPPA, Western, ELISA), mRNA (RNAseq, nanostring, RNAscope, and PCR), metabolomic (Flux, mass spec), and cellular (Seahorse and flow cytometry) assays is desired.
3.Experience utilizing lentiviral or retroviral systems to perform genetic studies with cancer cell lines is a plus. These tools and assays will be used to identify and validate novel biomarkers and develop responder ID hypotheses.
4.Experience independently designing and interpreting experimental results is expected.
5.The position requires an accomplished, highly self-motivated individual with outstanding organizational skills, the ability to effectively present results and conclusions to co-workers, collaborators and manager.
