As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.
The Institute of Radiation Medicine (IRM) is a transdisciplinary institute with focus research in the areas of biology/molecular biology, physics, information technology and translational radiation medicine. The institute is closely linked to the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Key topics are translational radiation research in terms of preclinical models, investigation of novel biomarkers for risk-stratified radiotherapy, implementation of novel study concepts as well as new developments in medical physics.
We are now seeking an
Independent Young Investigator Group Leader (f/m/d) with Tenure Track in Thoracic Radiation Medicine
The future group will establish research programs employing innovative approaches to investigate molecular mechanisms of lung disease including lung cancer. A key focus will be the identification of modulators of radiation response in thoracic oncology in a personalized approach to establish concepts of biomarkerdriven radiation oncology, specifically, mechanisms of action related to radiation response in normal and diseased lung. Moreover, the research group should optimize imaging of early lung disease, risk of radiation-related changes in the lung as well as mechanisms of disease. The group will be immersed in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Research directions may include, but are not limited to:
- Deep insights into radiation biology and pathophysiology of lung disease to identify personalized therapy options
- Evaluation of molecular effects of radiation on normal and diseased lung tissue
- Biomarker development for thoracic radiation oncology
- Molecular biology to understand radiation response mechanisms
- Immunological patterns of radiation response and modification of the immune system by radiation
- Genetic predisposition and patient-specific determinants of radiation effects
- Computational approaches in radiation-related risk stratification
The new Young Investigator Group Leader
- Must hold a PhD, international academic experience, should be highly motivated and innovative
- Shows an excellent track record in the field of radiation biology, molecular biology, biomarker development in the field of lung cancer or other lung disease
- Raises successfully extramural research funding
- Should be interested in working in an interdisciplinary team of physicists, medical doctors, radiobiologists and molecular biologists at the interface of different research institutes and interface with other research groups at IRM and the Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU)
- Is a teamplayer with excellent communication skills, excellent self- and time management, highly motivated to supervise and teach students, establishes collaborations and fosters networking, builds a scientifically visible research group in lung biology/lung disease
