The Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), member of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), is currently establishing the Institute for Lung Health (ILH) and invites applications for a
Independent Junior Research Group Leader
in the field of Parenchymal/Vascular Lung Disease
The position is offered with the earliest possible starting date for a period of six years. The salary of the position is determined by payment group E14 according to the collective labor agreement of the State of Hessen (TV-H).
The successful candidate will establish and lead her/his own research group associated with the respective professorship (see “W3 Professorship for Aberrant Remodeling and Regeneration in Chronic Lung Disease” and “W2 Professorship (with W3 tenure track) for Lung Microenvironmental Niche in Cancerogenesis”). Topics include parenchymal/vascular remodeling and regeneration in chronic lung disease and tumor microenvironmental factors in the development of lung cancer.
The future incumbent is also responsible for the scientific projects in the above-mentioned areas. In addition, the future jobholder is expected to hold scientific lectures and she/he is responsible for publishing research results at seminars and in prominent scientific journals.
Applicants are required to have an excellent academic degree in natural sciences or medicine as well as a doctoral degree with excellent grades.
An extensive experience in the field of parenchymal and vascular remodeling processes and their regeneration in chronic lung diseases or in the field of biomedical research in the development of lung cancer is expected.
The ILH is a unique and novel institute supported by federal and state funding, operated under the umbrella of the DZL with its Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center (UGMLC) site and located at the JLU. A new research building harboring this institute will be constructed at the Biomedical Research Campus of the JLU, hosting the Biomedical Research Center Seltersberg building, the Excellence Cluster Cardio Pulmonary Institute building, and the Center for Infection and Genomics of the Lung building. In this vibrant environment of internationally renowned basic and translational lung research, the ILH will focus on the parenchymal/vascular compartment in lung physiology and disease, with “Resilience, Remodeling, Repair and Regeneration (R4)” as joint topics.
