The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful supercomputing infrastructures in Europe and makes it available to researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Germany, and throughout Europe. The department High-Performance-Computing Systems (HPS) at JSC is responsible for the integration and operation of different supercomputing and high-performance storage resources in the facility. With the supercomputers JUWELS and JURECA and the storage cluster JUST, HPS is operating some of the largest supercomputing systems using cutting-edge hardware and software technologies. We design our systems in cooperation with major industrial partners.

Your Job:

You will be working within the department on the design, implementation and maintenance of system configurations, software tools and services for our supercomputers and cloud infrastructure components. Depending on qualification and interests you will be

  • Contributing to deployment and operation of new systems and their integration with external infrastructures

  • Perform benchmarking and system tuning

  • Perform research on – and develop tools for – system operation and monitoring of supercomputers

  • Problem analysis and resolution including third-level user support

  • Contribute to infrastructure-oriented research projects in cooperation with scientists in the field of neuroscience and earth systems modelling

  • Evaluate new hardware and software technologies

  • Cooperation with hardware and software vendors

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor or master (or comparable) degree from a university with internationally accepted quality standards in informatics, mathematics, or a related subject
  • Strong knowledge of Linux in the areas of installation and administration and ideally system optimization
  • Strong knowledge in Python and script languages (Bash, etc.). Ideally knowledge in further relevant programming languages (C/C++/Go)
  • Previous experience with high-performance computing or cloud technologies is a plus
  • Willingness to contribute with talks to international conferences and participate in courses and tutorials
  • Good command of English and preferably good knowledge of German
  • Structured and systematic working style as well as ability for cooperative work in teams
