We currently have an opportunity within our Medicinal Chemistry department in Cambridge, UK for an outstanding synthetic organic chemist with hands-on experience of laboratory automation and a proven record of high-quality scientific achievement.
The successful candidate will lead the development of Astex’s high throughput experimentation platform for synthetic organic chemistry and its application to fragment-based drug design and drive the development of novel methodology for fragment synthesis and fragment hit elaboration. They will also provide training for the chemistry department in the use of robotics and facilitate collaborations with academia on cutting-edge synthesis technology.
Candidates will have a PhD in the field of synthetic organic chemistry and at least two years’ post-doctoral experience in a leading academic institution. A broad knowledge of organic synthesis is essential, including familiarity with latest developments in the fields of photoredox, CH activation, electrochemistry, late stage functionalisation and other emerging areas. The candidate will have a good network of academic contacts, excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
